  On the death of an armigerous person a Hatchment was painted and displayed over the front entrance of the deceased's residence, for one year and thereafter hung in the local church.
The black background on an impaled shield indicates whether the husband or wife has died.

    For Elizabeth Keppel, daughter of William 2nd Earl of Albemarle. She married, 8th June, 1764, Francis Russell, Marquess of Tavistock. (See Hatchment H2).  She died 2nd November, 1768.

    For William, 5th Earl and 1st Duke of Bedford K.G. He was born August 1616 and died 7th September, 1700. He married Ann, daughter and sole heiress of Robert Carr, Earl of Somerset
